Competent orthodontic treatment will increase your income, enlarge your practice, and lower your stress. No magic, but more satisfying than Endo and more profitable than Operative.
Proper Orthodontic Training…
“What comprises proper training to attain competent clinical skills in orthodontics?”
Let’s be serious. A university trained specialist is usually in a master’s degree program that take 2 to 3 years and includes research projects. In terms of hours, the total is approximately 3,500 hours. On the other hand, there are orthodontic programs that claim that only a few weekend courses are needed to attain competent clinical skills. Well the answer lies somewhere in the middle. You should expect to invest at least 8 to 10 weekends over 20 to 24 months, along with our support in treating some orthodontic cases in your office, which will serve as your clinic. If we total the hours in our program, including the cases that you will do, a fair estimate would probably approach about 1000 hours. Therefore, the 3, 4, or even 5 course programs simply cannot provide enough instruction to assure that you attain a “standard of care” proficiency. |
