D406 - Orthodontics Start to Finish
Description
This course is designed to review informed consent; basic dental legal issues; taking records; set treatment goals; and the use of digital photography. The USDI mechanics progression will be reviewed. Cases will be demonstrated. Finishing mechanics will be discussed, emphasizing the use of a pre-finishing checklist to make sure that the pre-treatment goals are accomplished. Students will be instructed on how to handle situations when pre-treatment goals have not been met. Retention, specifically Essix (clear-plastic, vacuum-formed) retainers will be discussed and proper fabrication will be emphasized. Moving teeth using Essix retainers will be demonstrated. Proper methods of air rotor stripping and alteration of Essix retainers to move teeth will also be covered.
