AM312 - Progress, Finishing & Retention

Description

  • At the end of the course the student will understand the objectives, treatment methods, and retention methods which are unique and specific for the following malocclusions:
    1. Open bite
    2. Deep bite
    3. Class II
    4. Class III
    5. Transverse maxillary and mandibular problems
    6. Asymmetries
  • The objectives for finishing a case are determined by the original orthodontic problems. Retention methods and retainer designs are determined by the original problems.
  • At the end of this course the student will be able to recognize and correct many problems which exist as an orthodontic case treatment progresses to finish and retention.
    1. finishing problems: crown torque, root torque, root parallism, crown tip, root tip, intrusion, extrusion, eruption, rotations, space closure, over jet, overbite, collapse, over expansion, disto lingual toe-in, distal tip back, gingival, root prominence, bony dehiscence's, root resorption, alkalosis, bracket placement, band placement, interincisal angle, arch form and others.
    2. Methods and Techniques: bracket placement, bracket repositioning, rebanding, wire bending before and/or after rebracketing or rebanding, fixed appliance auxiliaries, removable appliance auxiliaries and combinations.
  • At the end of this course the dentist will have recognized and described the problems and solutions for finishing one of his/her orthodontic cases for which he/she has brought progress/finishing records consisting of symmetrically formed and well-trimmed orthodontic models, traced lateral head plate, posterior anterior (frontal) head plates and photos.
