D660-DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT PLANNING WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON VERTICAL CONSIDERATIONSDescription:This course emphasizes the importance of vertical control in orthodontic therapy. Students learn how to diagnosis potential vertical problems by viewing cephs, models, and photographs. Case selection based on thee potential vertical problems will be dealt with in detail. Different treatment mechanics for deep bite and open bite cases are discussed. Different modalities for Class II correction will be presented, and the rationale for appliance selection based on the vertical control that is necessary will be discussed. Finally, an in depth discussion on fitting and use of headgear will be presented. Treatment planning with an emphasis on goal setting constitutes a major portion of this course. Students learn methods to discern which goals are important ad should be emphasized also , a method for determining the ideal anterior-posterior position of upper and lower incisors will be demonstrated. Bjork's interpretation of growth and development will also be covered in detail. the course will demonstrate why an understanding of growth and development is essential to arrive at correct diagnosis and treatment plans.
