Description:

This course covers the important interrelationship between the facial appearance, the vertical dimension, the arch width and the health of the TMJ.  The importance of vertical dimension and/or inadequate arch width to TMJ problems, and how to improve facial aesthetics will also be discussed.  Other topics will include; The 7 keys to facial beauty and TMJ health; The cultural causes of malocclusion; eliminating gummy smiles without surgery; an easy cephalometric analysis that correlates with the facial analysis; facial esthetics, vertical  dimension and the TMJ; the environmental causes of malocclusion; how and why functional appliances work; using functional appliances along with straight wire to achieve best results; treatment timing and logistics for children, teens, and adults; newer appliances including David Leitle expansion Hawley, Bowbeer Horseshoe, forward Pull Headgear, Biofinisher, and invisible retainer; causes of TMJ problems; diagnosis of TMJ problems; and treatment of TMJ problems.
