D239/2-ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT APPROACHES

Description:

The goal of this course is to present a series of orthodontic cases which have the same malocclusion, but utilize different methods to solve the problem.  Advantages and disadvantages of each treatment will be discussed for each technique.  It is imperative that the clinician have knowledge of alternative techniques.

PURPOSE:

The dentist must have knowledge of various methods of orthodontic treatment if he is to incorporate combined orthodontic therapy in his practice.  There may be several ways to treat a given case and the clinician must evaluate the malocclusion, growth pattern, attitude of the patient and the situation being presented prior to treatment. the clinician should have knowledge of traditional  edgewise therapy.  Knowledge of alternative techniques can help one towards completion of a given case.

COURSE CONTENT:

Necessary baseline records and analysis will be reviewed.  Rationale of extraction to gain space will be discussed, and several Class II cases will be covered, analyzing various treatment methods for each case to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each method reviewed.
