AM113-ADVANCED PRACTICAL BASICS
Description
This course builds strongly on the content of the AC102,
AC103 and AC104 courses.
At the conclusion of this course, students should be
able to:
- Critique and improve their orthodontic records and diagnosis
- Be able to list at least five ways to improve the quality of their
orthodontic records.
- Be able to list at least ten common diagnostic errors and how to avoid them.
- Determine which mixed dentition cases to schedule for orthodontic records
and at what age.
- Bracket orthodontic cases to an accuracy of within 1/4 millimeter and two
degrees of angulation.
- Be able to bend the following loops in less than two minutes each:
regular loop, omega loop, box loop, closing loop, step bend.
- Be able to list the indication for and be able to bend efficiently all
four types of utility arches.
- Diagnosis the need for Wilson Distalizing mechanics and be able to adjust
and place the appropriate size within five minutes of chair time, with no
additional band or wire inventory.
- Diagnose the need for Jasper Jumper mechanics and be able to describe
placement and adjustment of the appliance.
- Diagnose the need for a Herbst appliance and be able to describe the
design and adjustment of same.
- Diagnose the need for bicuspid distalization and be able to describe
placement and adjustment of the appliance.
- Diagnose the need for reverse headgear and describe the treatment regimen
using same.
