AC103
Description
This course is designed to provide a practical experience
in straight wire mechanics. An articulator with bonded teeth set in wax, will
again be required for the course. Arch wire and power unit principles will
be reviewed. Balancing power units, pitfalls in treatment, correlating diagnosis
and treatment for accurate prognosis, the required treatment stages and
retention will be studied. Laboratory exercises will require students to
work through a Class I crowded extraction case. This will include setting
up the articulator with the specific malocclusion, bending the diagnostic arch,
developing and preparing treatment slips, bending sectionals, applying power
units, and studying the results when the articulator is placed under a
heat lamp. This allows the student to see in a short time span tooth movement
caused by the various power unit combinations. A sequence of treatment
will be reviewed for a Class II Division 1 case.
