AC102
Overview
The instructor presents the more advanced technical procedures in forming and
using arch wires for correcting malocclusions. The diagnostic arch form is
studied in depth, including its determination, its significance to retention.
and the effect of muscle pattern on the diagnostic arch. Laboratory
projects will show you how to interpret and bend the diagnostic arch form.
Symmetry and the use of the diagnostic arch wire in the formation of full arches
will be learned. Exercises will include complete bonding of a typodont,
completion of Class I crowded, non extraction case on the articulator, bending
coordinated mandibular and maxillary arch wires used in correcting overbites,
and balancing the various power units. Loop position and how loops are
made part of the full arch wire will be learned, including exercises to
bend flat , medium curve and deep curve coordinated mandibular and
maxillary arch wires with regular and double loops. The course will
include an in depth discussion of power units, including alastiks, elastics,
coil and cervical and combee headgear. In addition, the three tooth
concept will be discussed, and a sequence of treatment will be reviewed for a
Class I crowded extraction case.
